2020 Started with a big stuff up on my return but we are looking very strong from here on through.
I came back from my break absolutely fizzing, full of ideas and energy. I then made an almighty F# Up.
When you are wrong - you are wrong (& I was wrong)
Have you ever been in the situation where in your mind you were doing something great and somebody else then sheds light on another perspective which highlights just how wrong you were?
While the intention may have been good, the way I went about it was completely wrong and I could have shattered the opportunity to work with someone I admire greatly.
In the end we sat down, I listened, fell on my sword and asked a very important question:
What can I do to make things right?
When you are wrong there is no point arguing to justify a point.
If you stuff up admit it (ideally front it before they bring it up to you)
The important thing in earning back trust is acknowledging the wrong and agreeing on a plan to rectify the situation.
I still cringe writing this as I hate letting people down.
Sometimes Imperfect Action causes conflict and we get it wrong. There is however a bonus in that when we take action AND are prepared to pivot and learn from our mistakes, we learn and grow faster.
As a leader I continue to learn and will take these lessons as an opportunity to grow and blossom into a better person that makes better decisions
KIC Your Goals in 2020
Our very first KIC program in December was a great success with 16 businesses taking part.
The next round is in April and I am very proud of what the existing KIC members have already achieved in Dec and Jan.
What Makes the KIC program different?
There are business planning tools and programs "For Africa" and as business owners we can tend to either wing it or focus entirely on the business, neglecting the most important person (ourselves).
I have been incredibly passionate about including personal development into this program as much as business planning.
We have therefore included focus on both skills development and self care into the program.
this includes practical sessions on Social Media management and advertising, creating "lead magnets" on the skills development side and speakers such as dieticians, and breathing experts to help us improve our physical health and mental wellbeing to de stress.
This is not a tree hugging, kale eating hippy fest. We neglect ourselves as business owners and put everything at risk. it is time we stepped up and took care of our ourselves to ensure we have a business and a future.
