  • Who Knew There Was A Chrome Extension For That!

Last updated on October 21, 2019

If you love simple things that can help improve your life – then there’s probably an extension for that!

Everyone has there owns ways of doing things, little ole habits, that can slowly erode your productivity.

When you start to monitor how much time your spend on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube etc, it can hit you like a 2 X 4 across the head!

When it comes to browser speed and power, I prefer to use Google Chrome as there are so many great extensions you can use. Many extensions can be used Firefox also.

Here’s 6 Chrome extensions that you may want to check out:

1. ColorZIlla

This is one of the most popular extensions out there.

It has the following features:

✓ Eyedropper - get the color of any pixel on the page
✓ Advanced Color Picker (similar to Photoshop's)
✓ Ultimate CSS Gradient Generator
✓ Webpage Color Analyzer - get a color palette for any site
✓ Palette Viewer with 7 pre-installed palettes
✓ Color History of recently picked colors
✓ Displays element information like tag name, class, id, size etc.
✓ Auto copy picked colors to clipboard
✓ Keyboard shortcuts
✓ Get colors of dynamic hover elements
✓ Single-click to start color picking (currently only on Windows)
✓ Pick colors from Flash objects
✓ Pick colors at any zoom level
✓ All features here: http://colorzilla.com/chrome/features.html

2. FontFace Ninja

This really is a powerful tool for those who love design and you know how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to find that perfect font.

Once you install this extension, you can visit any website, and if you like the look of a certain page font, you can click on the extension to activate it and it will tell you the type and size of the fonts used throughout the page or a particular font that you like. It will show you if it is a paid or free font, then show the closest related free font.

3. Perf Map

Page speed is a big deal!

If you want to know which elements are slowing down a particular page. go to your website and hit the Perf Map extension to reveal all the visual data!

The information is shown as a heatmap. The things that need immediate attention will be shown in red, then amber, and the green is all good and keeping the Google happy!

4. TinyPNG

If the Perf Map extension showed you that there were certain PNG images (PNG images are generally much  higher quality and maintain a lot more information than JPG files) that sucked the speed out of your website,

You can then download the PNG image from your website, and upload it to TinyPNG to compress it. You can continue to re-upload the image if you want to compress it further.

TinyPNG uses smart lossy compression techniques to reduce the file size of your PNG files. By selectively decreasing the number of colors in the image, fewer bytes are required to store the data. The effect is nearly invisible but it makes a very large difference in file size!

5. Google Keep

Hands up who finds it annoying when you want to save something directly to a Google Drive, and you find yourself saving something to your computer folder (or desktop or some random download place you can never find!), then having to find that folder, then open Google Drive, then dragging content from your computer to Google Drive.

I know right – talk about hard work (in this modern day). You can save yourself some clicks here for sure!

There is a Chrome extension (of course) called no other than, ‘Save To Google Drive’ which you can use BUT this is superseded by Google Keep.

Google Keep is much easier, faster and allows you to write a description and to tag the information.

When you are on a website you can right click and choose to either save the web link, or save an image, and you will see a pop up on the top right of your screen where you can add notes and a tag.

At any time you can right click the extension then click ‘Go To Keep’ to look in your files. You can access this from your Gmail account also (yellow icon showing a lightbulb).

Google Keep is easily accessed on your phone also.

There we have it. Just a few things to help you out and save you time.
